Senior Sports Games kicks off with over 1,000 participants

The 2026 Macao Seniors’ Sports Day was held Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion, attracting more than a thousand participants – the highest number in the event’s history.
The event was co-organized by the Sports Bureau (ID) and the Macau Elderly Sports Association.
During a press conference on August 31 to announce the event, ID Sports Development Department Chief Chao Kuok Wai said the event would feature a number of prize-winning recreational and physical activities designed to address the specific health needs of older people.
According to reports, the aim was to encourage seniors to use everyday household items to exercise through games, helping them develop an awareness of self-directed exercise at home, Chao said.
He added that the activities include exercises targeting upper and lower limb strength, cardiovascular fitness, mobility and physical coordination.
Chao noted that the event also featured a lucky draw alongside sports and health performances, offering participants several surprises.
Through these interactive games, the initiative aims to raise seniors’ awareness of physical activity, enabling them to better understand their own physical condition and the importance of exercise for overall health.
In addition to sports activities, the event also offered new services such as Chinese and Western medical consultations, disease screenings and psychological assessments, alongside cultural activities to enrich the experience.
The program also included a cultural experience booth featuring acrobatics, health-preserving Baduanjin exercises and experiences with exoskeleton assistive devices.
