In a move to implement this year’s policy objective of promoting temporary land use in the transport and public works sector, the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) will build a temporary car park on Nam Van Lake Plot C9, expected to be completed by December this year.
The plot covers an area of approximately 3,000 square meters and is expected to provide about 100 motorcycle parking spaces and more than 90 light vehicle parking spaces, including accessible spaces and electric vehicle charging facilities.
According to the DSOP website, the design-build contract has been awarded at a cost of MOP5.688 million, with a construction period of 90 working days. Works include establishing a vehicle entrance and exit on Rua do Lago Sai Van, along with corresponding adjustments to roadside parking spaces and sidewalks along Rua do Lago Sai Van and Avenida Panoramica do Lago Nam Van.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to make temporary use of idle state-owned land while longer-term development plans are being formulated. By converting the vacant plot into a functional parking facility, authorities aim to help alleviate the chronic shortage of parking spaces in the busy Nam Van Lake area, particularly for motorcycles and light vehicles.
Plot C9 is located opposite the Legislative Assembly, adjacent to Plot C8, where a temporary sports venue with a free play area is currently under construction.
