The USD120,000 Macau Grand Prix Gold finals took place yesterday at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion. China’s Xue Song won the men’s singles, beating best-ranked Vincent Wong from Hong Kong in three matches (16-21, 21-13, 21-19).
In the women’s singles final, two-time World Championship bronze medalist PV Sindhu (India) lifted her first title of the season by successfully defending the Macau trophy after seeing off Kim Hyo Min of Korea. The Indian shuttler places eleventh in the world badminton rankings and won convincingly over 91st-ranked, Kim 21-12, 21-17 in a final that lasted 45 minutes.
In the men’s doubles final, Danny Bawa Chrisnanta/ Chayut Triyachart (Singapore) beat the Indonesians Angga Pratma/Ricky Karanda Suwardi (21-19, 22-20).
The women’s doubles competition was a Chinese affair, since two of the country’s pairs reached the final, with Ou Dongni/Yu Xiaohan winning to Huang Yaqiong/Zhong Qianxin in three matches (19-21, 21-19, 21-7).
The mixed doubles final was won by the Indonesian pair Edi Subaktiar/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja getting the better of Singaporeans Danny Bawa Chrisnanta/Yu Yan Vanessa Neo in a disputed match (21-15, 29-30, 22-15).
The tournament was organized by the Badminton Federation of Macau, and was one of the BWF World Grand Prix Gold tournaments. PB
