Three football fields proposed for new urban zone A

The Sports Bureau (ID) has made a proposal to the relevant governmental department to build at least three football courts in the New Urban Zone A.

In her reply to lawmaker Sulu Sou’s inquiry about the city’s football courts resources, ID acting director Lam Lin Kio said that the ID also proposes building three standardized swimming pools in addition to three sports stadiums in Zone A, as well as bicycle and running tracks.

According to Lam’s reply, in 2018, Macau had more than 400 students aged between six and 14 years old enrolled in the city’s football schools. In total, there are 17 football classes.

Regarding football court facilities, in the past, Macau had a total of four natural turf pitches, including Lin Fong Sports Center, Olympic Sports Center, the Macao University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the University of Macau.

However, starting from August 1 2018, MUST stopped cooperating with the ID, with the school also informing the ID that after the school’s football field was rebuilt, the school would manage the relevant facilities by itself.

The ID expressed its respect for MUST’s decision, and the bureau is continuing communication with the school regarding the facility.

According to Lam, the ID hopes that MUST will continue to cooperate with the bureau and open its football field to the public during specific hours.
