Tourism office well-prepared for any outbreak

As part of the interdepartmental working group against pneumonia, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said yesterday it is staying in close communication with other government entities.

Hoi Io Meng, deputy director of the MGTO, said that his office would hold a joint meeting with the Health Bureau (SSM) to brief local hotel operators and tour operators. The meeting will be presided over by the SSM, which will introduce measures for disease prevention.

Hoi does not think the effect on the visitor count is a priority for the government. On the contrary, he thinks it is more important to secure the city against an outbreak.

Hoi repeated a comment given by the office’s acting director Cheng Wai Tong, who thought it was too early to forecast whether the Chinese New Year Parade would be cancelled.

However, he stressed that the office would follow up any measures found necessary by the governmental working group. AL
