Two residents lose MOP743,000 in Alipay scam

Police are investigating two new cases of phone scams involving fraudsters posing as Alipay employees. The victims, both local residents, were told their trial for Alipay’s “fund security insurance” was ending and that they would be charged MOP900 monthly for three years unless they canceled. The scammers then requested “account verification” via transfers to designated cryptocurrency and bank accounts. One victim lost MOP443,000, while the other lost MOP300,000.
