Young swimmer wins first gold at NSYG

Swimmer Chen Pui Lam won her first gold medal in the women’s 50 m breaststroke event Saturday at the 1st National Student (Youth) Games (NSYG) in Guangxi, China.

The golden accolade is also the first for the Macau delegation in the Games.

Chen finished the race in 31.62 seconds. The events at the Games are separated into school and open categories, with Chen participating in the latter. Earlier in the same Games, the swimmer finished fifth in the open category women’s 100-meter breaststroke event.

The swimmer is an emerging star who broke the Macau record for women’s 50-meter breaststroke with her performance in the Asian Games that ended last month.

Meanwhile, the swimming, the cycling and the track and field teams have finished their competitions in the open category of this Games.

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong was at the Games as part of the Macau delegation. She congratulated Chen and presented the medal at the venue. She thanked both athletes and coaches for their achievements at the Games.

The NSYG is jointly organized by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, the General Administration of Sport of China and the Communist Youth League of China and undertaken by the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. AL
