Youth innovators showcase AI solutions for global sustainability

Macau hosted the “AI for SDGs – Global Youth AI Future Innovation Competition 2025” last week at The Londoner Macao, bringing together young innovators from 47 countries to tackle sustainability challenges using artificial intelligence.

Organized by the United Nations University (UNU) Global AI Network and co-hosted by UNU Macau and Venture Cup China, the event formed part of the UNU Macau Milestone Series, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the United Nations and the 50th anniversary of the UNU.

This year’s competition, themed “AI for the Environment: Ecological Environment and Green Transition Challenges,” drew 131 proposals from 47 countries, including 36 submissions from the Global South.

After the evaluation process, 12 international teams advanced to the final round, joined by three local youth teams from Macau selected by the Macau Computer Society. Together, the 15 teams presented AI-driven solutions addressing climate adaptation, environmental conservation, clean energy, and applications for developing regions, aligned with SDGs 7, 10, and 13.
