Zhuhai industrial park helps promote traditional Chinese medicine

An industrial park for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) jointly built by Guangdong Province and Macau is exploring ways to promote traditional Chinese medicine in Portuguese-speaking countries, building on its recent success in Mozambique.

Located in the city of Zhuhai, the TCM Science and Technology Industrial Park of Cooperation between Guangdong and Macau is piloting treatment in Portuguese-speaking countries.

Since 2016, the park has held nine Chinese medicine training sessions in Mozambique, training a total of 241 practitioners in local public hospitals. These medical professionals have treated more than 16,000 Mozambican patients with traditional Chinese medicine.

The park said it has also successfully helped several pharmaceutical companies from the Chinese mainland and Macau have their products registered in Mozambique.

Based on the Mozambique model, the park has expanded cooperation to countries like Cape Verde, Angola and Guinea-Bissau this year to help train hospital specialists and therapists.

It has also organized seminars on traditional Chinese medicine and exchanges among health officials and medical practitioners in Portuguese-speaking countries.

Macau is planning to develop the traditional Chinese medicine sector amid efforts to diversify its economy, as well as connect China with Lusophone countries under a directive issued by Beijing. DB/Xinhua
