The First Standing Committee of the Legislative Assembly signed a statement on the minimum wage bill yesterday, which proposes raising minimum wage rates to MOP7,280 monthly, MOP1,680 weekly, MOP280 daily, MOP35 hourly, and an average of MOP35 per piecework. For daily wages based on an eight-hour workday, compensation for hours exceeding this limit would be no less than MOP 35 per hour. Approximately 18,200 employees –representing 4.4% of the total workforce – would benefit from this bill, including 2,200 local employees. The bill takes effect January 1, 2026. The government aims to ensure fair compensation while balancing employers’ costs and residents’ affordability.
