Amendments to Chief Executive election law take effect

Amendments to Macau’s Chief Executive Election Law took effect Jan. 1, 2024, the SAR government. Under these amendments, nominees for the Macau SAR chief executive election and candidates for electing members of the chief executive electoral committee must uphold the SAR Basic Law and pledge allegiance to the SAR. They must also not be members of foreign parliaments or governments. The eligibility of nominees and candidates will be assessed by the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of Macau.
