Six cases of bird flu in Guangdong

The Health Bureau (SSM) said yesterday that six new cases of the H7N9 bird flu virus have been identified in Guangdong province. According to information provided by the Guangdong authorities, a 55-year-old man is in serious condition after contracting the disease.  Since 2013, Chinese authorities have reported a total of 593 cases of bird flu, causing 211 deaths. Although there aren’t any reported cases of bird flu in Macau, authorities say they have taken preventive measures and have a contingency mechanism. As more cases of bird flu are likely to emerge in China, Macau’s Health Bureau has said that it does not rule out the possibility of cases also emerging here.
