Briefs: Liaison Office opens new website today

The Central Government Liaison Office in Macau has created its own website, which will open to the public today. The domain name is www.zlb.mo or www.zlb.gov.cn. The Liaison Office announced that the aims of the website are to “promote the principle of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ more comprehensively; to closely communicate with the Macau society; to foster the interaction and cooperation between mainland and Macau; and to better serve the public.” Moreover, the Liaison Office will soon roll out the mobile and tablet versions of the website, as well as a WeChat account for the public. The Liaison Office is not the first central government agency in Macau to set up a website. The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in Macau also has its own webpage, featuring the news and activities of the Office and the mainland, and providing information on consular service.

2015 EAFF East Asian Cup: CNMI pounds Macau 7-0

The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Women’s National Football Team has hammered the Macau team 7-0 in Preliminary Round 1 of the 2015 EAFF East Asian Cup at the Guam Football Association Training Centre, in Harmon. The Macau team was forced to relieve its starting goalie after CNMI scored three goals in the first 45 minutes of play, but CNMI continued to dominate the game in the second half. The win follows up on the CNMI Men’s National Team’s 2-1 triumph over Macau earlier this month. This is the first time that Macau has sent out the women’s team for a match. Macau will be competing with Guam, Mongolia and CNMI for only one spot in the final competition. The 2015 EAFF East Asian Cup is the sixth edition of this regional competition, which is the football championship of East Asia. It will be held in China in 2015. Two preliminary competitions will be held in Guam and Taiwan during this year.
