Briefs | Man from Hong Kong found dead in hotel room

 

A 42-year-old man from Hong Kong, surnamed Kwok, was found hanging and dead in a hotel room on Avenida de Amizade yesterday, the Judiciary Police has reported. The law-enforcement entity received a report on the case at 3:36 p.m. from the Fire Services Bureau, whose team was initially called to the scene. The team declared the man dead at the scene. After preliminary investigation, the police were told that a housekeeping staff member at the hotel discovered the man at 3:15 p.m. during a regular room-cleaning task. The man was hanged from the upper glass door track of the shower cabinet with a belt. A suicide note was found by the police on the desk in the room. No wounds indicating that the incident might be of criminal nature were found.

HR firm sees little gain in employment for rest of 2020

Although travel endorsements for mainland residents to visit Macau are gradually resuming and some enterprises are starting to hire new people, a human resource firm has told local Chinese newspaper Macao Daily News that it hasn’t seen revitalized employment activities, with most employers staying cautious about business outlook for the rest of the year. The firm pointed out that salary workers are seeing heavy pressure with more employers turning to casual or part-time workers. The pandemic is also affecting the exhibition industry as many job fairs have been postponed to a later date.

Oxfam Tower Run returns this October for seventh edition

The annual Oxfam charity run at the Macau Tower is returning in the hope of raising funds to help ease challenges faced by people in regions strongly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. It has cumulatively raised MOP2.3 million over the last six editions. Categorized into the male and female groups with respective individual and team races, runners should raise at least MOP500 to participate in the individual race or MOP5,000 for the team race. Each team has four members. The event will be held on Sunday, October 18 and the application period ends September 21. The charity group will also hold an extra Oxfam Online Run this year.
