Briefs | Thai brawl involving Macau group

Pattaya police are reportedly searching for a gang of ten men, thought to be from Macau, who allegedly attacked a group of five Thai men outside a popular North Pattaya disco in the early hours of Monday morning. According to the website Thai Visa News, the incident occurred outside the Star Dice Discotheque in Naklua, and resulted in injuries sustained to 22-year-old Khun Chardree, a tour guide for Chinese tourists. He went to the disco with his brother Khun Somshai, aged 27, and four other friends. The incident is said to have begun when Khun Somshai accidentally collided with one of the men from Macau.

Singing contest to  be held throughout this week

Local Indonesian group Jesus Alive Ministry (JAM) has announced that it is organizing the “JAM Singing Contest 2015,” which is being held throughout this week. The contest is open to anyone with a valid Macau ID or working visa, of any age or nationality, who can sing in English, Indonesian, Tagalog, Cantonese, Mandarin or Portuguese. According to the organizers, “The event aims to provide positive activities for local migrant workers, also giving them the opportunity to engage with one another, regardless of where they are originally from, as well as with local residents, including their employers.” Auditions began on Monday, June 29 and will be held throughout this week until Friday, July 3. The final will take place this Sunday, July 5 at 4.30 p.m. at ICA Centre, Macau Square building, 14th Floor J. Prizes include MOP1,000 for the champion, MOP500 for the runner-up, and various other rewards for all finalists.

The Chief Executive met with members of the consular corps of the European Union in Hong Kong and Macau at the government headquarters where they exchanged views on issues of mutual interest. At the meeting on 29 June, Chui Sai On thanked the consular corps for visiting every year and paying attention to the MSAR’s development, saying  Europe-Macau relations have always retained a good level. Topics discussed with the Head of Office of the European Union to Hong Kong and Macau, Mr Vincent Piket, and other 16 consuls-general covered the region’s latest economic development, mid-term review of gaming concessions, and opportunities in regional development that might come about from the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.
