Caritas receives over 15,000 calls on Lifehope hotline

Caritas Macau reported that its Lifehope Hotline and support hotlines handled 15,219 cases last year, covering emotional distress, marital issues, family conflicts, and health concerns – an increase of 14,050 cases from the previous year, highlighting the growing demand for emotional support services. The organization’s service director urged individuals seeking help to utilize social resources and avoid fixating on problems, while encouraging family and friends to offer proactive care and foster a supportive community. Meanwhile, suicide data for 2025 remains unclear, as the Health Bureau (SSM) and the Office of the Secretary for Security have yet to release updated figures, with the SSM noting that internal coordination is ongoing.
