Macau racer Charles Leong continues to add important results and accumulate points in his campaign in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia (LSTA) Championship.
After securing a first and a second place in the round that took place last month in Shanghai, Leong matched those results this weekend in the third round of the championship at Fuji Speedway in Japan, finishing Race 1 (on Saturday) in second place and winning Race 2 (on Sunday).
After six races, the duo of Leong and Irish driver Alex Denning, driving car No. 32 for the SJM Theodore Racing Team, has won four out of six races, finishing the other two in second place, and leads the championship standings.
After the race, Leong said, “P1 and P2 this weekend at Fuji Speedway. We should have won both races, but the safety car came out and affected our plan during Race 1. Huge thanks to SJM Theodore Racing for the fantastic car and program. Let’s carry this momentum into Korea next month.”
Now at the mid-season point with a clear lead, Leong and Denning have taken another step toward a bid for the final win in this year’s LSTA and securing a seat at the LST World Finals, to be held in Misano, Italy, on November 8–9.
As noted by Leong in his post-race statement, the LSTA will continue next month when the series moves to Inje Speedium in Korea for Round 4, scheduled for July 18–20. This will be the last round before the summer break, leading to a final Asian round at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia on September 5–7.
As the Times previously reported, the sixth and final round of the LSTA will take place in Europe, at the Misano Circuit, on November 6–7, right before the World Finals.
