The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM), the global governing and sanctioning body of motorcycle racing, has awarded Patrick Castro, a former official of the Automobile General Association Macao-China (AAMC), a special prize for his long-standing and invaluable commitment to motorcycling.
The award ceremony took place earlier this month in Lyon, France, during the 2026 FIM Commissions Conference.
To The Times, 86-year-old Castro said, “To receive this award was a dream come true.”
The long-serving official recently left his post at AAMC, where he worked for many years organizing and promoting motorsports events, particularly motorcycle racing in Macau, including playing a significant role in organizing the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix.
“I am truly honored to receive this award this afternoon. To be recognized for commitment, dedication, and professionalism within the motorcycling community means more to me than I can easily put into words. At age 86, receiving this award is a dream come true,” Castro said in his acceptance speech
“Motorcycling events in the Asian region are special. They reflect not only a deep passion for the sport but also an incredible diversity of cultures, landscapes, and people who come together with a shared respect for skill, discipline, and safety. Being part of that journey has been a privilege. This award doesn’t belong to me alone,” he added.
According to him, the award also belongs to the “Macau organizers, all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes; the officials and marshals who put safety first; the teams and riders who raise standards every season; and the volunteers, whose commitment often goes unseen but is never unfelt,” he said, noting that “professionalism is what makes our events credible, respected, and world-class.”
Recalling the many years and challenges along the way, Castro said, “I am grateful for the trust placed in me, for the opportunities to learn across borders, and for the friendships formed through long days at the track and even longer nights of preparation. Each event has reinforced the same lesson: excellence in this sport comes from consistency, cooperation, and mutual respect.”
