A police investigation is underway after a reported assault at a hotel on Avenida Marginal Flor de Lótus, with emergency services responding to the scene on Wednesday evening.
Firefighters and police officers arrived at the scene at around 10 p.m. after receiving a report and found a middle-aged woman with cuts to her face, neck and hands. The mainland resident was transported to Conde de São Januário Hospital for treatment.
According to a text message sent by the Judiciary Police (PJ) to the press yesterday, the injured woman “remains unconscious while receiving medical treatment in hospital.”
“Preliminary findings indicated that a man attacked his female friend over relationship issues, causing multiple knife wounds of varying severity,” the PJ said.
“The investigation found strong indications that the mainland male suspect had committed attempted murder and possession of a prohibited weapon. Police will detain the suspect,” the PJ added.
A male Nepalese hotel security guard, a blue card holder, was also injured, suffering bruising to his arm. He was in stable condition and taken to Kiang Wu Hospital.
Videos and images circulating online showed a heavy police and ambulance presence outside the hotel, with a black seven-seater vehicle cordoned off and bloodstains visible on the seats inside.
The Times contacted the PJ for further information regarding the incident. In response, the bureau said, “We currently have no information to provide,” while announcing that a press conference would be held this afternoon to provide further details. MDT
