PJ urges stronger cybersecurity measures amid growing risks

Macau’s overall cybersecurity remains stable, but risks are becoming increasingly severe, the Deputy Director of the Judiciary Police (PJ), Lai Man Vai, said yesterday.
Speaking at the “2025 National Cybersecurity Awareness Week-Macao Sub-Forum,” Lai stressed the need for enhanced vigilance and careful planning to address emerging threats.
“Over the past period, we have achieved good results. But facing new challenges and new forms of attacks, we need to further strengthen awareness, bottom-line thinking, and cautious planning to handle the many uncertainties and risks during development,” Lai said.
These include threats from various cyberattacks, data leaks, ransomware, and other cyber incidents.
He reiterated that comprehensive cybersecurity and data protection are essential to cope with the increasingly complex environment.
The official said that the PJ, together with the Cybersecurity Incident Warning and Emergency Response Center, will adopt “forward-looking strategies to develop resilient and sustainable technological systems.”
He added that they plan to continue working closely with critical infrastructure operators and all sectors of society to strengthen the cybersecurity capabilities.
Lai also highlighted regional cooperation, noting that Macau will continue to work with Guangdong Province and Hong Kong to promote talent exchange and technological innovation, noting that authorities aim to facilitate data flow and collectively fortify cybersecurity defenses across the Greater Bay Area.
