Crime | Local resident arrested for arson

A local female resident has been arrested on suspicion of arson, according to the Judiciary Police (PJ).

The incident occurred on October 12. The suspect is a Thai Macau resident aged 41 years old, who was once a croupier.

The incident took place in a residential house located in Rua de Miguel Aires. Five people inside the house were taken to hospital due to distress caused by the fire.

The house belongs to the suspect’s former superior.

According to the PJ, the suspect was moved from her dealer position to the catering department within her company. Unhappy with the change, and having also been involved in unpleasant situations with her superior at the catering department, she went to his residence to set it on fire.

The suspect bought two bottles of alcohol from a supermarket near the house and one lighter. Afterwards, she lingered for about 10 minutes.

The fire burnt more than 10 umbrellas. The suspect denied the accusations, declaring she had only been drinking alcohol in front of the house.

However, the PJ believes that there is strong evidence to suggest  that the suspect had a plan to commit to the crime.
