A 77-year-old man working as a doorman at a private building is being accused of sexually abusing two boys aged seven and nine years old in the public toilet of a shopping mall located at the Rua da Tribuna in the surroundings of Toi San neighborhood, the Public Security Police Force (PSP) reported.
The case was discovered through a complaint made to the PSP on Friday, September 3, from a woman who was taking care of the two children at the time of the alleged incident.
According to the report, the woman and the two children entered the shopping mall in the area to use the bathroom.
The suspect allegedly followed the two children as they entered the men’s room. Once inside, he attempted to remove their pants, fleeing the scene once they resisted him.
The children told the woman who was waiting for them and she reported to the nearest police station.
The PSP deployed officers to the location and they immediately requested to review the surveillance camera footage to identify the man and commence a search for him.
Not long after they spotted and detained the man who was still within the premises on a different floor.
Taken into custody for questioning, the man said that earlier he became intoxicated and that he does not remember any of the events reported by the children. He added that he did not remember meeting any children in the men’s room that day and denied the accusations.
Nevertheless, based on the testimonies collected from the victims and the evidence gathered from the surveillance camera footage, the PSP has forwarded the case to the Public Prosecutions Office for the accusation of the man of the crime of sexual abuse of minors.
