Domestic helper held over alleged gold theft
Judiciary Police arrested a 47-year-old Indonesian domestic helper for allegedly stealing gold jewelry belonging to her Indonesian housemate and pawning the items. Police said the victim discovered last Thursday that jewelry worth about MOP16,000 was missing from a wardrobe drawer in their shared apartment in the central district. The items included a gold necklace, earrings and a jade pendant. Investigators later arrested the suspect at the apartment and recovered the jewelry from a pawnshop in the central district. The woman allegedly admitted stealing and pawning the jewelry on two occasions, with about MOP6,000 in proceeds sent to her family in Indonesia.
