DSEDJ launches three summer internship programmes for students

The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) has launched three summer internship and practical experience programmes, offering more than 1,400 placements for senior secondary and tertiary students, according to a government statement.

The programmes include the “Youth Work Experience Programme 2026,” the “Macao Tertiary Students Internship Programme in Mainland China,” and the “Volunteer to Reality” pre-employment practical experience programme.

To mark the launch, DSEDJ held its first “Stepping into the Workplace – Student Summer Internship Kick-off Ceremony” late last week. DSEDJ director Kong Chi Meng, speaking at the ceremony, emphasized the government’s commitment to youth development, describing internships as vital bridges connecting students’ campus experiences with society. He encouraged students to approach their placements with proactive and responsible attitudes, integrating personal growth with Macau’s and the nation’s development.

The “Youth Work Experience Programme 2026” involves 31 public departments and 41 private enterprises, providing more than 670 local internships across sectors including the “1+4” industries, education, social services, aviation, and environmental protection.

The mainland internship programme offers 620 placements across 14 projects in cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. Participating students receive a one-time subsidy of MOP5,000 upon completion of the programme.

Additionally, the “Volunteer to Reality” programme provides more than 170 senior secondary students with pre-employment positions in healthcare, technology, and cultural and creative industries, helping them explore career paths before making decisions about their academic and further education plans.
