Elvis Costello to perform solo concert in town

The Macao Cultural Centre (CCM) is set to present the renowned singer-songwriter Elvis Costello in a concert at the Centre’s Grand Auditorium on September 9.
Costello will perform a combination of his best songs and new hits with the backing of piano and guitars, CCM revealed yesterday.
Inspired by a myriad of different genres, Costello, also a record producer, has recently stepped into the classical and jazz music sphere with collaborations with the Brodsky Quartet, the Mingus Orchestra and Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter.
The English musician has also partnered with music giants, from Paul McCartney and Tony Bennett, to trumpet legend Chet Baker and country music icon Johnny Cash.
Costello is widely known for his interpretation of “She” on the soundtrack to the movie “Notting Hill”, almost two decades ago in 1999.  Costello shot to stardom two decades earlier, thrust by the thrill of new wave and punk movements.
After he recorded his critically acclaimed debut album “My Aim Is True” in 1977, the singer formed “The Attractions” as his backing band.
His second album, “This Year’s Model,” was released in 1978, and was ranked number 11 by Rolling Stone on its list of the best albums from 1967–1987.
By 1979, he had released his third album “Armed Forces”, which featured his most successful song, “Oliver’s Army.” As a result, his first three albums all appeared on the Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The English icon, who is set to hit the stage in Macau with his 90-minute solo concert, has won several prestigious awards in his career, from the Grammys to the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. He has been nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male Singer and, in 2003, Costello and the Attractions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Costello was also featured in the magazine Rolling Stone, which named him one of the 100 greatest artists of all time in 2004.
