Five-star hotel rates ease slightly

The average cost of a five-star hotel room declined slightly in January, even as occupancy levels stayed near full capacity.

According to a survey by the Macau Hotel Association published by the Macao Government Tourism Office, five-star rooms averaged MOP1,522.5 per night, down 2.9% year-on-year. However, demand remained strong, with occupancy for the tier reaching 95.8%, up 0.8 percentage points from the previous year.

The survey covered 48 member hotels, including 27 five-star properties, most of which are located within integrated casino resort complexes. Across all hotel categories, the average room rate was MOP1,359.4, marking a 3.8% year-on-year decline.

The hotel landscape continues to be dominated by high-end resorts, with luxury rooms accounting for the majority of the city’s total accommodation supply. As of late 2025, the city had about 26,200 five-star rooms, accounting for more than half of the total hotel inventory.
