Macau records 873,000 visitors during five-day Labor Day Holiday

Macau welcomed approximately 873,000 visitor arrivals during the five-day Labor Day holiday from May 1 to 5, 2026, marking a 2.7% year-on-year increase, according to preliminary figures. Average daily arrivals reached nearly 175,000, surpassing 2019 levels by 10.4%.

Visitor flows peaked on May 2, when arrivals hit about 248,000, the highest single-day total recorded since official statistics began. Hotel occupancy also remained strong, averaging 92.7% over the holiday period and reaching a high of 98.3% on the peak day.

Mainland visitors accounted for the majority of arrivals, totaling more than 725,000, up 6.9% from a year earlier. Hong Kong contributed 94,000 visitors, while Taiwan recorded 12,000 arrivals. International visitors reached 42,000.

The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) attributed the strong performance to coordinated promotional campaigns and enhanced travel facilitation measures. These included online-offline marketing efforts, community tourism initiatives, and designated pedestrian zones designed to distribute visitor flows across different districts.

Authorities also stepped up inspections and coordination with public security agencies ahead of the holiday. Between May 1 and 5, MGTO conducted 124 inspections across entry points, attractions, and hotels, reporting no irregularities. However, seven suspected illegal lodging cases were uncovered.

The MGTO hotline handled 21 complaints during the period, mainly related to casino services, transport, hotel bookings, and concert tickets.
