Gov’t retrieves land plot in Patane, plans to build leisure area

The government launched a joint interdepartmental operation yesterday to reclaim a piece of state-owned land located on Rua do Patane in Macau.

According to information provided by the Land and Urban Construction Bureau (DSSCU), the recovered land plot is one of 39 plots that the government has designated for temporary use.

For the time being, the DSSCU noted plans to use this plot, which had been used as an outdoor private parking lot, to construct a new connection road and create a temporary recreational area.

According to the same bureau, the land plot is state-owned, situated between Rua do Patane and Rua da Harmonia, with an approximate area of 985 square meters. The DSSCU said the plot had been illegally occupied, with metal gates, canopies, and other structures added to the site.

As previously mentioned, the plot had been used as a private outdoor parking lot, with the DSSCU noting that, at the time of the operation to retrieve the land, many private vehicles were parked there.

The bureau said it had previously initiated procedures to vacate the land, notifying the illegal occupants to vacate it and return it to the government by a specified deadline, but the deadline passed without the site being vacated.

DSSCU said that because the occupation continued after the deadline for vacating the site had expired, the government had no alternative but to undertake this joint action to reclaim the land, and redevelopment work for the planned temporary use would soon begin.

In its statement, the DSSCU did not mention what would happen to the vehicles parked on the plot. Still, since the operation also involves several law enforcement departments, the vehicles are likely to be impounded and stored at police facilities until their owners retrieve them.
