The Public Works Bureau (DSOP) announced yesterday its plans for three plots of land – A3, A4, and A9 – at Nam Van Bay for temporary public use, with Lot A4 specifically planned for development as an “urban terrace.”
According to a statement from DSOP yesterday, the implementation of the 2025 Policy Address under the portfolio of the Secretary for Transport and Public Works is progressing smoothly.
Among these initiatives, Lots A3, A4, and A9, located along the Nam Van Bay shoreline in the city center and adjacent to popular tourist hotspots like Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro and Largo do Senado, as well as commercial areas near the Emperor Hotel, are designated for temporary use as public spaces for public activities.
Among these initiatives, the “bold plan” announced earlier by the Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Raymond Tam, at a Legislative Assembly session to transform the long-idle A9 site into an “urban terrace” has now entered the preliminary phase.
The DSOP noted that this project not only aligns with residents’ reasonable expectations for efficient land use but also enhances the urban landscape of the city center and enriches Macau’s appeal as a tourist destination.
The DSOP stated that its preliminary work involves draining and cleaning water from the A3 and A4 sites, managing water drainage from the A9 site, and clearing weeds, debris, and standing water to prevent mosquito infestations.
Following this, a quality inspection firm will be commissioned to conduct a structural inspection of the existing basement.
The authorities introduced their phased temporary works plan, which includes the construction of temporary walkways in Lot A9 and the creation of temporary plazas in Lot A4. Additionally, the basement will be repurposed as a public parking facility.
