Gov’t to shift ZAPE park positioning, refine pedestrian routes

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) is planning to fully open Dr Carlos D’Assumpção Park in ZAPE while refining the movement of pedestrians.

Accessibility will be a core part of the refinement project, the IAM disclosed.

At a recent communal seminar, IAM administrative member Mak Kim Meng said the park’s peripheral fences will be dismantled. The sidewalks surrounding the park will also be refined to provide greater convenience.

Without the fences, the park will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

After the upgrade project, it is expected pedestrians will be able to walk directly through the park when going from one side of ZAPE to the other. The effect will be even more obvious than during the current off hours of the park.

A series of supportive land works will be conducted, Mak added, including but not limited to the rearrangement of pipelines and cables, lighting, irrigation heads and surveillance cameras.

The upgrade will also bring over 1,000 square meters of green area to the precinct.

All proposed construction works added up to a quoted amount of nearly MOP10 million.

Meanwhile, the sidewalks across from MGM Macau and Mandarin Oriental, Macau will also be widened and refined. The IAM pledged that trees will be conserved. AL
