The Medical Affairs Committee discussed changes to the nurse-registering scheme yesterday. Lei Chin Ion, the Health Bureau director, acknowledged that most of the local nurses were against the implementation of internship or post-graduate exams for nurses who want to start practicing in Macau. The Medical Affairs Committee was divided in regards to the need to introduce an exam, with 17 of its members opposed and 15 in favor.
The nurse-registering process is being revised by an independent group that specializes in the nursing field. The proposal to create a “registered nurse” category, however, is far from being consensual. “It is just the first version of a drafted bill, and it will only be finalized after reaching a broad consensus between the sector and society,” the Health Bureau said in a statement on Monday.
