Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng welcomed a delegation from Portugal’s Douro and Tâmega e Sousa municipalities, aiming to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation between China and Portugal. This meeting took place during the ongoing Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF), where the AEP Foundation has facilitated the participation of businesses from Portugal.
During the gathering, Ho underscored Macau’s pivotal role as a cultural and economic bridge connecting China and Portuguese-speaking nations.
“Macau has long-standing ties with Portugal, and we are committed to preserving our shared cultural heritage,” he said.
He highlighted the success of the recent 6th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation, which showcased fruitful exchanges among China and nine Portuguese-speaking countries.
Pedro Daniel Machado Gomes, Mayor of Lousada and President of the Tâmega e Sousa Intermunicipal Community emphasized the Douro region’s commitment to innovation alongside its esteemed wine production.
“We aim to leverage our participation in the MIF to strengthen trade relations with China and showcase our development potential,” Gomes said.
Gomes expressed his appreciation for the Macau government’s efforts to preserve Portuguese history and culture, stating that this cultural inheritance makes Macau a unique and beautiful city.
The delegation included mayors from several municipalities, including Penafiel and Cinfães, as well as Luís Miguel Magalhães Ribeiro, President of the AEP Foundation. Ribeiro acknowledged that the fair serves as a crucial platform for fostering business opportunities and cultural exchanges. NS
