IC announces activities for cultural heritage carnival

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) will hold the “Macau’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Carnival” at Mandarin’s House and Lilau Square on June 9 and 10, in response to the “China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day.”

Aiming to raise public awareness and understanding of the city’s intangible cultural heritage, this year’s carnival will feature a series of activities such as booth games, exhibitions, thematic talks, workshops and performances presented by various cultural and artistic groups.

A stamp-collecting activity will also be available at the carnival for participants to redeem souvenirs in exchange for a specified number of stamps collected after playing games.

In addition, lectures and workshops will also be arranged during the carnival, including a lecture on the “Overview of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Macau” by the associate professor of the Centre of Sino-Western Cultural Studies, Lam Fat Iam.

A lecture on the “Belief and Customs of Na Tcha” by the heirs of representative items of intangible cultural heritage at the national level, Chiang Kun Kuong and Ip Tat, will also be presented, as well as a workshop on the Craft of Bamboo Scaffolding.

The IC stated that these activities and demonstrations will enable the public to connect with the city’s intangible cultural heritage, facilitate exchanges and interactions, and promote the cultural heritage of the SAR.
