IC launches new survey on public libraries

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) has decided to commission the University of Macau to conduct the “Macao Public Library Survey 2015” in order to evaluate the public need for library services and facilities. The survey will take place between November and December this year.
The IC hopes to understand residents’ current use of Macau public library services as well as expectations among users and readers. The survey will take into account the reading habits of Macau residents and the current optimization of services and facilities. It is also intended to serve as a reference point for future years, in terms of the potential development of public libraries and other related research.
The network of public libraries has expanded in recent years, as new venues have been completed and implemented, the bureau noted in a statement. As a consequence, the IC intends to collate the relevant statistical information about the current use of and future need for libraries.
The questionnaire will be comprised of two parts: “Survey of Public Library Users’ Needs and Opinions on Library Services”; and “Survey of Macau Residents’ Needs and Opinions on Library Services.” The survey will be conducted by telephone, registering needs and opinions on various facilities, electronic information and promotional activities.
The survey will only contact a random sample of the population, and personal information provided by interviewees will be kept strictly confidential and only used for statistical analysis.
