‘Little Rabbit Lanterns’ part 11 inaugurated

An opening ceremony for “part 11” of the “Little Rabbit Lanterns” was held last night in the courtyard of Albergue SCM, where various participating artists and local officials gathered for the festive, though postponed, occasion.
Shortly afterward, the courtyard and indoor gallery hosting the exhibition was flooded with visitors, including many children and their parents.
As in previous years, traditional rabbit lanterns were distributed to children along with the traditional mooncake gifts for their parents.
The exhibition, dreamed up by the president of Albergue SCM, Carlos Marreiros, and his friends and associates, invited local and international artists to design 28 rabbit-themed or shaped lanterns.
“The event is so popular with local people because it touches them,” Marreiros told the Times last night. “The concept is very simple but it really does reflect the intercultural nature of Macau.”
The 28 exhibiting rabbits come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, with some embodying realistic portrayals of the animal, and others more conceptual or abstract in style.
Participating artists hailed from Macau, Hong Kong, China, Portugal, the Philippines, Italy, France, the Netherlands and Thailand, according to a statement issued by Albergue SCM.
“Everybody – no matter where they come from – loves the rabbit lantern. In this way it truly symbolizes the intercultural relationship of people in Macau,” he added.
This year, the event is part of the celebration of the Mid-
Autumn Festival associated with the “Macau Lantern Festival 2016”, an initiative organized by One Central and the Macau Government Tourist Office, and co-organized by Albergue SCM.
The exhibition is open to the public every day until November 20, in the afternoons and early evenings.
