Man loses MOP320,000 in fake police scam

A middle-aged man lost MOP320,000 after falling victim to a telephone scam involving callers posing as mainland Chinese police officers. The victim was told his identity had been misused to register a mainland mobile number linked to fraud. He followed instructions to rent a hotel room for a supposed “video investigation,” sign a confidentiality agreement and raise a “security deposit.” He borrowed MOP320,000 and deposited it into a designated account before contacting police after becoming suspicious.
