MELCO promoting life values through volunteerism

Supporting, encouraging and facilitating events for employees and their family members to volunteer for the community, Melco Resorts and Entertainment has developed the Teaching Children Values program to nurture important life values for children through the act of volunteering, and for them to gain meaningful experiences through devoting their personal time and energy to the community.

“Enabling volunteerism is one of the cornerstones of Melco’s commitment to society as a responsible corporate citizen,” said Ms. Akiko Takahashi, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff of Melco Resorts and Entertainment. “The Melco-developed Teaching Children Values initiative enables us to introduce and promote the benefits of volunteering to the younger generation through collaborative events co-hosted with our trusted community partners. Participants learn important values such as the virtues of respect for the elderly, how to foster empathy, social skills and a sense of responsibility; and are provided with the chance to make a positive difference to the lives of others. We look forward to developing more in-depth events under the Teaching Children Values program in the coming months to benefit the local community.”

One such event within the program was “Find the Little Angel Drama and Workshop”, which was shown to an audience of over 30 Melco employees and their children last month. “Find the Little Angel” is a poignant drama which aims to foster empathy within the community. Through a lively performance, the drama aims to teach children to build inclusive values and empathy, and to create a caring environment. The workshop also included a parent-child interaction session.

“Find the Little Angel” is sponsored by the Social Welfare Bureau and produced by the Macau Autistic Association, with whom Melco collaborated for this performance. In October 2018, the drama had toured fifteen schools and two nurseries with a total of 22 showings. The production aimed to encourage ordinary students to become little angels to those with learning obstacles; to care for, cooperate with and appreciate those classmates and friends in need.

“The drama has been seen by over 3,000 students in Macau and has been positively received by both educational institutions and their students. We are grateful and pleased to be invited by Melco Resorts and Entertainment to perform for their Teaching Children Values corporate social responsibility initiative. We are appreciative of the company’s help to further promote compassion and empathy across a wider audience for positive impact,” Ms. Nicole Chan, Director General of Macau Autistic Association said.

Another event was the “Big Mouse Kids Drama Group Storytelling Workshop,” which aims to instil positive moral values in children and to encourage children to learn about self-growth and their personal sensory development, as well as to enhance parent-child communication. “This has been a great opportunity for parent-child bonding. My son had a wonderful time learning through fun-filled sessions of painting and play,” one Melco employee participant said. “I am pleasantly surprised by how meaningful this event has been, and I’m really glad we signed up,” another Melco colleague added.

With the drama workshops proving popular among both parents and children, Melco will be announcing further activities under the Teaching Children Values initiative in collaboration with its local community partners in the forthcoming months to continue contributing to the development of the community.
