Rua dos Mercadores to close to vehicles; route 18 rerouted

Authorities have announced a one-month vehicle ban on Rua dos Mercadores starting today for an underground utility pipeline and road excavation project. During the closure, Rua de Camilo Pessanha and part of Rua das Estalagens will serve as alternate routes with reversed traffic flow. Public bus Route 18 will be rerouted with adjusted stops. The Road Projects Coordination Group said the work will be carried out in three phases over 50 days, with completion expected by November 27. Officials noted no further excavation should be needed for the next two to three years.
