September cultural, sports events to feature major competitions, exhibitions

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) will launch a cultural and creative design competition next month as part of a six-month exhibition featuring products inspired by Chinese history.

The exhibition, “Ancient China in Creative Products,” will open at the Macau Forum on Sept. 15 and run for about six months, IC President Leong Wai Man said at a Friday press conference. It will feature designs from 22 cultural and museum institutions across China and aim to introduce residents and visitors to Chinese history through creative products.

The exhibition is part of the “Exploring Macau’s History Through Creative Products” program, which will include forums, a design competition and related exchange activities over several months.

“We hope that this exhibition can bring our young people, our students, our residents and tourists here to see the exhibition,” Leong said in her closing remarks. “We hope everyone can learn about our Chinese history and Chinese culture through these wonderful creative designs.”

The bureau also plans to introduce a series of Macau-themed creative products and launch the “Exploring Macao’s History” shuttle bus tour route in September. The program will present the city’s historical landmarks through what Leong described as different perspectives and approaches.

As highlighted by organizers, the September calendar will also include events for the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Oct. 1 National Day celebrations. Planned events include a concert by the Macao Chinese Orchestra at the Ruins of St. Paul’s and a large-scale production combining music, dance, poetry and acrobatics.

The Macao Chinese Orchestra and the Macao Orchestra will also hold opening concerts for their new seasons. In addition, an exhibition marking the 130th anniversary of the birth of Gen. Ye Ting will be held at the Tap Seac Art Gallery from Sept. 10 through the end of the month.

Sports and tourism

Lei Si Leng, acting president of the Sports Bureau (ID), said the WTT Macau Championship 2026 will be held from Sept. 8 to 13, bringing leading table tennis players to the city. In addition, the 2026 FIA Karting Arrive & Drive Asia-Pacific Championship will take place from Sept. 11 to 13.

Lei said the events would continue to generate synergies between sport and tourism while offering residents and visitors the opportunity to watch international competitions.

Lei also used the press conference to call for public support for Macau’s athletes ahead of the 20th Asian Games and the fifth Asian Para Games, both of which will take place in September and October. She said Macau’s delegations would compete at Asia’s highest level of sporting competition and called on the public to support the athletes as they represent the city.

“These two games are the highest-level stages in Asia,” Lei said.
