China General Nuclear Power Group, the nation’s largest domestic nuclear power operator, launched its Nuclear Safety Publicity Campaign in Macau last week – marking the first time such national nuclear safety awareness initiatives have extended to the city.
The event, held at the Macau Science Center and hosted by CGN’s Taishan Nuclear Power Joint Venture Co. Ltd., precedes National Security Education Day on April 15 and aims to boost public understanding of nuclear science and the “holistic approach to national security,” organizers said.
The event serves as a precursor to a government-backed “National Security Education Exhibition” opening April 15 at the Complex of Commerce and Trade Co-operation Platform for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
Liu Dan, general manager of CGN Taishan Nuclear Power Joint Venture Co. Ltd., called the campaign a tool to “dispel the public’s nuclear misconceptions” by providing a “transparent view” into nuclear safety technology.
“It is a ‘heart-to-heart bridge’ linking Guangdong and Macau, building consensus on safe development,” Liu said.
During his address, Director of the Macau Science Center Shao Hanbin described nuclear safety education as “essential” to national security, enhancing scientific literacy and social safety awareness.
“National security affects everyone,” Shao said. “The exhibition uses intuitive, interactive formats to explain nuclear energy principles, safety barriers, ecological value, and its connection to daily life and the future, helping the public understand nuclear energy rationally and appreciate the enormous national efforts to ensure its safety.”
The launch featured a nuclear power science class, roundtable forum, and exhibition, drawing about 200 attendees. The exhibition runs through June 14.
