Statistics | Population sees slight growth

The total current population of Macau is 649,100 as at the end of the first quarter of this year, marking an increase of 2,300 people from the previous quarter, according to the new data released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). The female population of Macau accounted for 51 percent of the total.
A total of 1,664 live births were reported in the first quarter of 2016, a decrease of 198 (10.6 percent) quarter-to-quarter. Male births have risen to 870 and the sex ratio at birth stood at 109.6, corresponding to 109.6 male births per 100 female babies.
The number of mortalities has increased in the first quarter by 165 to a total of 650. DSEC attributes the increase to the cold weather earlier this year, though added that the top three underlying causes of death were neoplasms (230), diseases of the circulatory system (186) and diseases of the respiratory system (90).  These three underlying causes were also the leading instigators of death throughout last year.
The number of non-resident workers have dropped by 210 quarter-to-quarter to 181,436 as at the end of March. Individuals granted the right of abode amounted to 339, a decrease of 55. New Chinese immigrants reached 2,695 in the first quarter, up by 514 quarter-to-quarter.
A total of 975 cases of marriage registration were recorded in the first quarter, up by nine quarter-to-quarter.
