Chongqing Express
More details about the big bust this week are emerging on Chinese social media, namely Weibo. So, police busted an underground prostitution ring in Macau this week. Agents arrested 34 men and 8 women involved in the illegal sex trade, including the alleged master-criminal who is “expressly” from Chongqing. The gang coordinated operations via a mobile phone social media application – we bet WeChat – which clients used to pick from a “portfolio of three women” for a meet-up at a Cotai Strip hotel. Mainland police released images of seized items, including cash, condoms and a ledger of appointments. It’s not the first time we’ve seen this modus operandi. WeChat actually has been increasingly popular in commercial sex rendezvous arrangements.
Head hunters
Leak in! A certain Cotai property is about to recruit a top cadre from the government, more precisely from MGTO. Talkers learned during a drive looking for a parking space (on loud hands-free) that a division head from the Tourism Bureau is about to leave his comfortable public service chair for… Melco Crown. The HR resources war is gaining momentum and by year-end there will be blood.
Diplomatic corps in town
European Union Trade Commissioners will be convening in Macau next week on Thursday during MIECF’s opening day, Talkers learned while breaking bread with some chaps. Recently Portugal’s Consul General Vitor Sereno welcomed his EU counterparts at his residence on Penha Hill. Pic is a facebook steal.
Moon City
“At a meeting on Tuesday [Mar 10], Sun City Group – a corporation based in Macau, China – sought permission from the Vietnamese government and the People’s Committee of Kien Giang Province in the Mekong Delta to build a hotel and casino on Phu Quoc Island.” This, from one of the media that reported a presence of a Sun City top delegation on the Vietnamese island. However, a week later, on the 18th, the junket operator sent out a press release denying that representatives of the company have ever been there. Insiders are telling Talkers this is a scam by “some guys with patacas”, posing as SunCity executives. We never know.
130K challenge
Tomorrow the JML team will be completing a 15K Trail & Stair Challenge on the Coloane trails aiming to raise funds for non-profit organizations. Last year they raised over HKD170,000 but we know this year things are a bit slow. As of yesterday donations were at HKD63,971 while organizers are aiming for HKD130,000. Come on folks, surf to jmlproperty.com/sponsor/JMLCommunityInitiatives2015 and use that credit card of yours. The idea is to raise money of course, but also to increase awareness of various charities.
in others’ words
The public works area is currently facing great pressure from society and these works aren’t easy to develop.
