Tourism shows steady growth in April, hotel occupancy nears 88%

Macau recorded 204,000 inbound package tour visitors in April 2025, a 12.1% year-on-year increase, according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

The rise was largely driven by a steady return of travelers from mainland China, which accounted for 178,000 of the total, up 11.8%. International package tour visitors grew by 4% to 20,000, with arrivals from South Korea rising 10.9% to 8,000.

Hotel performance also improved, with the average occupancy rate reaching 87.8%, up 4.7 percentage points from April 2024.

A total of 1.2 million guests stayed in local hotels, marking a 3.4% annual increase. Visitors from mainland China accounted for 861,000 of these guests, while international visitors climbed 12.3% to 106,000. Notable increases came from India (+64.4%), Thailand (+28.4%), and Japan (+5%). The average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.6 nights.

As of the end of April, Macau had 147 licensed hotel establishments, four more than the same time last year, but total available guest rooms fell 4.3% to 45,000. Five-star hotels led occupancy rates at 90.9%.

Meanwhile, outbound travel also saw gains. In April, 49,000 Macau residents purchased outbound services via travel agencies, up 10.7% year-on-year. Of these, 14,000 joined package tours, with 13,000 headed to mainland China.
