Macau’s central drug registry recorded 132 cases in 2025, a year-on-year decrease of 10.8%, according to the Social Welfare Bureau. Among the cases, two involved individuals under the age of 21, with no cases involving minors.
Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) Drug Abuse Prevention Division chief Tong Chan U said methamphetamine remained the most commonly used drug, as cited in the Drug Users Central Registry System.
He added that four cases involving etomidate, commonly known as “space oil,” were also recorded last year. All were consumed through electronic cigarettes.
“In 2025, only four cases were registered, so the overall situation is not too serious, but we will still monitor it,” he told the press yesterday.
Although the overall situation is not considered serious, Tang said authorities will continue to closely monitor developments.
He noted that data suggests drug use remains largely hidden in nature. Since 2023, the bureau’s online outreach programme has successfully engaged more than 50 cases.
This year, efforts will be strengthened to target young people through awareness campaigns, including the Greater Bay Area Youth Anti-Drug Study Programme co-organised with partner organisations. The initiative encourages young participants to design preventive materials and promote anti-drug messages among peers.
