Typhoon signal to be downgraded as Wipha moves away

The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) has announced that Typhoon Signal No.8, currently in effect, will be downgraded to Signal No.3 at 10:30 p.m. as Typhoon Wipha continues to move away from the region.

A “blue” storm surge warning remains in force, and authorities advise the public to remain alert, particularly in low-lying areas.

As of 7 p.m., the Civil Protection Operations Center recorded 152 storm-related incidents across the city, including 50 reports of fallen trees or damaged structures, 93 cases involving hazardous signage or building materials, seven related to scaffolding, one elevator entrapment, and one fire.

Five people have been injured, according to the Health Bureau and Kiang Wu Hospital.

The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) reported that 10 individuals were taking shelter in emergency centers as of 8 p.m., with 139 people accommodated in total since activation.

Light and authorized vehicles have resumed use of the lower deck of the Sai Van Bridge at 5 p.m., though the bridge floor deck will remain closed.

Following coordination between Macau and Zhuhai authorities, and in accordance with the Chief Executive Dispatch under the Civil Protection Law, immigration services at the Border Gate, Qingmao, and Zhuhai-Macao Cross-Border Industrial Zone checkpoints also resumed at 5 p.m.
