Airport passengers increase to 480,000 in May

2-BSC1919The Macau International Airport (MIA) has recorded positive growth in May, with passenger volume increasing by 11.7 percent to 480,000 and air traffic movements increasing by 7 percent to 4,600 compared with the same period last year.
Over the past month, the airport has maintained its overall passenger traffic growth while the Taiwan market registered a 6 percent increase, and Southeast and Northeast Asia recorded continuous growth. According to a press release issued by MIA, an overall increase of 7% has been recorded from January to May this year. The Taiwan and Southeast Asia markets recorded increases of 6 percent and 20 percent respectively while mainland China registered a slight drop of 1.7 percent.
In response to the increase in cases of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus which has been linked to South Korea, airport management personnel announced that it has strengthened its temperature monitoring systems for passengers from Korea. MIA will closely monitor reported MERS cases and maintain close contact with the airlines and related parties by notifying them of any updates.
