Au Chon Hin exhibition turns Amagao Gallery into interactive art space

An exhibition by Macao designer and artist Au Chon Hin has opened at Amagao Gallery at Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, featuring more than 50 two- and three-dimensional works that explore play, design and imagination.

Titled “Roam In Play And We Can Fly,” the exhibition runs through Oct. 18 and is jointly presented by Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, Amagao Gallery and the 1844 Macau Photography Art Space Association.

Funded by the Cultural Development Fund, the exhibition includes paintings and prints on canvas, acrylic and metal, as well as sculptures and interactive installations.

The exhibition draws on childhood experiences of drawing, building and playing, using bold colors, geometric forms and playful objects to create an open-ended environment. Families and children can explore shapes and blocks in different sizes, while the installations offer opportunities for interaction and photography.

Au said the exhibition marked a departure from his career as a designer creating primarily for others. He said he wanted to revisit childhood curiosity and creativity through the concept of play.

The exhibtion also examines design as a way of creating scenarios and alternative ways of interacting with objects, spaces and people.

Au, founder and creative director of Untitled Macao, has worked across brand identity, visual communication, exhibition curation and spatial design. His work has received recognition from international design platforms including NYC ADC, D&AD and Tokyo TDC.

Meanwhile, Rutger Verschuren, area vice president for Macau and Hengqin at
Artyzen Hospitality Group and general manager of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, remarked, “For Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, art is not simply something displayed within the hotel. It is one of the ways we connect with the city, its people and the creative community around us.”

During the exhibition period, Café Bela Vista will also offer an afternoon tea set inspired by Au’s works, extending the exhibition’s themes into food and dining.
