Australia Stock Exchange-listed casino Donaco International has announced a tie-up with Manchester United “to connect to the club’s 325 million fans across Asia, through the use of exclusive club content and branding,” The Age newspaper reported yesterday.
“This is a significant partnership for Manchester United, with Donaco being our first ever official casino resort partner in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and South Korea,” MU managing director Richard Arnold said in the official release.
“You can’t accuse MU of not aligning itself with some heavy hitters,” said the paper.
Donaco is controlled by members of Malaysia’s Lim family, the main shareholders of the region’s casino giant, Genting.
Last week, the Lims signed up Macau junket operator Heng Sheng Group to lure VIP gamblers to its Star Vegas Resort & Club – Poipet, Cambodia’s leading casino.
“The Lim boys have a bit of cheek, too. A few months ago, Donaco unveiled its new logo, which looks like a cross between Crown’s logo and the Boy Scouts insignia,” The Age jokes.
