The Buzz | Braga beats Porto on penalties to win Portuguese Cup

(SP)PORTUGAL-LISBON-PORTUGUESE CUP-FINALBraga defeated Porto 4-2 in a penalty shootout to win the Portuguese Cup yesterday [Macau time], 50 years after its only previous title.
Goalkeeper Jose Carlos Marafona saved two penalties in the shootout to give Braga the upset win after the teams drew 2-2 following extra time.
Rui Fonte and Josue put Braga ahead in the 12th and 58th minutes, but Andre Silva scored in the 61st and with a remarkable half-bicycle kick in the 90th to keep alive Porto’s chances of winning a title this season.
After a third-place finish in the Portuguese league, Porto was trying to win its 17th Cup title. Braga lost last year’s Cup final to Sporting Lisbon. It had been runner-up three other times since winning the trophy in 1966.
