During a meeting yesterday with Ms Tang Xiaoquan, the vice president of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, chief executive Chui Sai On pledged that the government will continue to cooperate with the organization, by offering various kinds of support for artistic and intellectual development. Ms Tang, who also serves as the director of the China Foundation of Disabled Persons was in Macau on an official visit. During this visit, she stated that the disabled persons’ associations she represents strive to strengthen the management and coordination of disability-based projects in order to meet international standards. Supporting the intellectual development of the disabled could help them better integrate into society and live their lives with more dignity, she added.
Security force personnel caught drug trafficking
A member of a law enforcement agency in Macau was detained on Tuesday for allegedly trafficking drugs from Zhuhai into Macau. Information from the Judiciary Police (PJ) suggested that representatives were told at around 1 p.m. on Monday that someone was going to smuggle drugs into Macau from mainland. After two hours of monitoring, PJ officers spotted the suspect crossing the border and followed him to his motorcycle in Macau. They found him in possession of three bags of white substances and two bank notes with white substances wrapped in them. The man admitted that the all of the substances were ketamine, which he bought from the mainland for RMB3,000. He claimed that he has been using the drug for years and the narcotics found on him were just for his own use. PJ has charged the man with drug trafficking and consumption and has handed the case to the Public Prosecution Office. Macau Daily alleged that the man is a Macau Customs Service officer.
IFT students help promote local food app
A group of fourth-year Tourism Retail and Marketing Management students from the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) enrolled in the Strategic Management course, led by Dr Fernando Lourenço, have conducted a project to assist in the promotion of the local mobile food application “Yummy Macau”. The project asks the students to analyze the business environment of the app, as well as to develop a three-year strategic plan and design and execute a marketing campaign to promote the app through various media.
Gilberto Camacho, co-founder of the app’s developing company Vector ITS Group, appreciates the effort the students have invested into the project. He revealed that the download rate of the mobile application and the number of ‘likes’ from their Facebook page increased substantially as a consequence of the project. Prizes and certificates were given to students in recognition of their efforts and hard work.
